NMK Electronics and CHAUVET Professional have launched a new lighting design competition, the CHAUVET Professional Lighting Challenge at NMK Beyond.
Open to lighting designers who live in the GCC, the competition has cash prizes of AED3,000 for third, AED5,000 for second, and a tip to Miami, USA, for the winner.
“At NMK, we believe that our industry is powered not just by technology, but by the creativity and vision of the people behind it,” the company stated. “This year, we’re launching initiatives like the CHAUVET Professional Lighting Challenge to connect with the talented lighting design community on a deeper level – to listen, learn, and celebrate them. It’s about more than just showcasing products; it’s about recognising emerging talent, understanding their needs, and empowering them with platforms that bring their ideas to life. We see this as a way to give back to the creative ecosystem that drives innovation in our industry.”
How to enter
Register: Candidates register by completing an online form.
Shortlist: Selected candidates receive the competition guidelines, rig specifications and tracks via email.
Design & Submit: Final show files must be designed virtually and submitted via email before 15 August.
Winner announcement: Judging panel will review all entries and winners will be announced early September.
The judging panel will include NMK’s technical leadership team, representatives from CHAUVET Professional, and prominent lighting designers from across the Middle East. “While we’re keeping some details under wraps for now, participants can expect to have their work evaluated by experienced professionals who understand both the creative and technical sides of lighting design,” the company commented.
NMK concluded by offering advice to potential candidates: “Tell a story with your light. Beyond technical precision, we’re looking for emotion, intention, and creativity in how you interpret the music and use the rig. Think about pacing, contrast, and how your design takes the viewer on a journey. Don’t be afraid to take bold creative risks – that’s often what makes a show memorable. And, of course, make sure your submission is polished and time aligned. Details matter!”
