Sila Sveta, an international multimedia production studio, has launched a behind-the-scenes documentary about creating the AFC Asian Cup 2023 opening ceremony that took place on 12 January 2024, at Lusail Stadium, Qatar – a show of the tournament was visited by 82,490 people and recognized by top global awards.

The making-of documentary, now accessible to a broad audience, will be exclusively launched on 12 January on YouTube. The film will offer an original perspective into the triumphs and challenges of the creative journey of the project, which marked the prestigious TPiMEA Award for Outstanding Production of the Year and Best Ceremony of 2024 by Eventex.

For six months, Sila Sveta’s team, led by Creative Director Arthur Kond, worked meticulously on developing the stage design and the visual content for a 25-minute show, the main show of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Opening Ceremony. The project was brought to life in collaboration with Katara Studios, combining efforts to deliver a production that captivated millions of viewers. It was the first time that a soccer tournament of this scale started with a simultaneous theatrical, musical and multimedia show. The documentary will reveal the process behind implementing design, art, light, and technology at the ceremony. From the initial sketches of sand and the abstract idea of a huge screen to the challenges that almost stopped the project, the movie looks at the team’s commitment to carry out a complex visual concept of stage design and bring to life the plot of ancient Sanskrit legend ‘Kelileh Wa Demneh.’

The film also explores the alternative stage design the team considered and how the final idea and key design features of the five shell-shaped screens with a 360-degree view appeared. The description of the show’s narrative, the details of creating graphic characters, visual metaphors, and other elements help to understand how the team managed to turn this opening ceremony into not just a beautiful light show but a full-fledged theatrical multimedia performance with its own storytelling and message.

“It’s always a pleasure and honour to be a part of such large-scale projects and work with the industry’s best people. I hope this movie will showcase not just the process but also the passion, creativity, and dedication that went into every detail of this amazing work,” — Arthur Kond, Creative Director at Sila Sveta.

With this documentary, Sila Sveta hopes to inspire motion design professionals and artists worldwide, showcasing the creativity and collaboration behind every spectacle.
