There are plenty of unknowns in the world of live events, with everything from inclement weather or unexpected VIP attendance to transport issues and equipment failure all considered run-of-the-mill challenges to the seasoned live events professional. In normal circumstances, one of the few factors that can be safely set in stone is where the event will take place. However, in the case of the Roshn Saudi League (RSL) Closing Ceremony, even this was left uncertain until just moments before the show was due to start.
“Projects of this scale are normally planned around fixed dates, venues and schedules that are confirmed weeks or even months in advance. This was the exception,” explained Executive Artistic Producer, Jean Marc Chandoo of entourage, which was tasked by the Saudi Ministry of Sport with producing the event. “The moment we would go live – and where – depended entirely on the outcome of matches that were completely out of our hands.”
With several teams still in contention for the RSL title, entourage assembled and led a team of specialist partners, including SLS Production, Groupe F and others, developing a flexible creative framework that celebrated the journey to the championship while allowing the final narrative, visuals and club identity to be tailored to the eventual winner. “The focus was always on creating an emotionally engaging experience that would resonate with fans while showcasing the latest in event technology,” Chandoo commented.
